Thats right!, After 8 years i am mostly retired from driving.
I do plan to go back doing this next summer or next winter. Local freight though, I cant get to far away from my Network. Its a love hate relationship i have with my sites and i call it ( PURE DEDICATION ).
Thinking? : About my Friend TruckerNorm wish he come visit again soon! , Perhaps Christmas?
Current: Listening to the blog radio i built. Willie Nelson ( on the road again ) makes me think of my Dad and the times i rode with him. ( MY Father is passed on now ), So Thats what I miss most about truckin. I felt i was always with my Dad when trucking freight accross those lonesome highways!. Would always say a prayer and felt my Dad was right there watching down on me.
The Teddy Bear song really gets me inside. Cause there is words EXACT to what my Dad told me. My dad passed on fast!. Lung Cancer!, My dad owned 3 Trucks when he passed. He knew he was dying and the day he died was the day he was applying life insurance and insurance on all the trucks. It didnt go thru!, It was very hard on me, To watch that ole 85 pete doublebunk go by by. Me and my father did not have the average father son relationship. We had a brother to brother relationship and was very very close. The 85 Peterbilt I picked out, never forget that day!, We get to the Peterbilt dealer in Erie, PA and dad says, Go ahead, Pick out your truck!… I was like acting like a 10 year old at the
age of 17 running around the lot of trucks. So i pick out a double bunk Kenworth and I be dammed, DAD SAYS NO!, HA HA HA. So I pick out another, 85 Peterbilt all decked out in lights, dual stacks ( big cam 400 cummins ) 15 speed Eaton Fuller tranny with 8 bag air ride suspension. It was sweet!! , I pointed at it and DAD said i think so!… Went home, 3 hours away back to Elmira, N.Y.
I was still in school, I got out of school knowing mom and dad ran the old 75 pete on a short run. But would be home shortly after I got out of school. I got home, Sat and waited to here the ole 75 pete roll into the yard. It wasnt the 75 pete!, The decked out 85 pete pulled into the yard. Had such a awesome sound with the turbo singing in the air!!….
I was so happy i was crying!, It was a surprise as I didnt think dad would get the Truck I said I wanted.
I was quite a spoiled man during my kid years. I used to even drive the truck around in the yard, All my friends was Jelious! HA HA
Well school was still in, I begged, begged begged my Dad. Let me ride with you, Said, Not till school break!.
As a kid, Every year of my childhood I had such a big charge waiting for spring break!. Cause i was gone for the entire break on the road Trucking with DAD.
At this time of year, Mom usually got a lil sad. She did not always ride along as she was a Nurse and had a job. And when summer break came along not only did Mom not see the man she loved ( my father ) but she didnt see much of me or my father as we was 2 Truckin gypsies out on the ole lonesome highways!.
All i can say is a was lucky to have such a relationship as I had with my Father. I see a lot of people dont have a relationship like this!. The good times are never forgoten , And loosing my dad at the age of 17 only made me grow up FAST and learn to be a man.
By the age of 21 I knew I had a HIGH ENERGY Brain. If I want to learn it, I simply learn it, No limits.
For instance, I am qualified and ( Licensed in windows server administration ) also SMT ( Surface mount Technology ) how did I learn it? I didnt goto colllege, I read , Tested, Read more, Tested.
Its all there , all the info you want in the world is there. Just read and learn, ( COMPREHEND ).
